We Accept Colorado Medicaid in Colorado Springs, CO

Our Services offered — Vision Exams In Colorado, CO
Our office is happy to accept Colorado Medicaid! We have been accepting Medicaid since we opened in 1992.
Medicaid Benefits
In the state of Colorado, Medicaid covers exams and glasses for patients under twenty-one years of age. Medicaid patients twenty years old or younger are eligible to receive a pair of budget glasses that will be completely covered by Medicaid.

For patients who are twenty-one years old or older, Medicaid does not provide glasses and will only cover the exam. Glasses are not covered for patients over the age of twenty. This is not due to our office policy, but to the policies of Medicaid in Colorado. In some other states, Medicaid may pay for glasses, but in Colorado, Medicaid does not contribute to glasses for adults, no matter what office or eye doctor you go to.
Medical and Vision
Medicaid covers both routine eye exams and emergency medical visits. In addition to seeing us for your yearly vision exam and seeing us regarding your clarity of vision, you can schedule visits when you are concerned about eye discomfort, eye allergies, redness or itchiness and dry eyes. These visits will also be covered by medicaid, and at these visits the doctor can prescribe any eyedrops you might need or refer you to the right specialist if you need a surgical procedure.

Medicaid also covers medical visits for eye diseases like glaucoma or macular degeneration. If you know that you have an eye disease and will need to visit an ophthalmologist, it is often a good idea to visit an optometrist first so that you can get a referral and so that the ophthalmologist can have some extra information on your eyes before you even arrive at their office. We have diagnostic testing equipment at our offices and have many patients that coordinate their care between our office and their ophthalmologist. We are able to treat patients for glaucoma at our offices.
Multiple Visits and Second Opinions
Medicaid is will cover multiple visits in the same year. If you saw another eye doctor but were not confident with the results of the eye exam you received, you can schedule a visit at our office. Both of our doctors are very experienced at finding your prescription and determining whether or not glasses are necessary for a patient. If you are worried that another doctor is pressuring you to buy glasses when you do not need them, feel free to book an appointment at our office for a second opinion. Our doctors do not prescribe glasses for patients unless they are necessary and are great at writing prescriptions and recommending eyeglasses that will match your lifestyle and budget. Our doctors can also help clarify for you whether your child needs to wear glasses or not and if full-time or part-time wear will be appropriate.

For some young children with high or quickly changing prescriptions, it is sometimes necessary to have multiple eye exams throughout the year. Sometimes a person with a high prescription who hasn't been wearing glasses cannot adapt if we give them their full prescription right away. If your child needs more than one appointment in a year or if it has been less than a year but they are having trouble with their vision, we'll be happy to schedule another covered appointment for you.
Glasses for Patients Under 21
We have a great selection of Medicaid covered frames as well as many collections of designer frames. You can always choose to upgrade your frame beyond what Medicaid covers if you are willing to purchase a more expensive frame. If you stay with a Medicaid covered frame then you will not have an out of pocket charge for the glasses.

The same goes for lenses. Medicaid pays for polycarbonate lenses, which are thinner, lighter, and more impact resistant than the standard plastic resin (CR-39) lenses. Polycarbonate lenses also block 100% of UV light, and come with a scratch coating and a one year scratch warranty. There are other options for lens materials that are important to some patients that are not covered by Medicaid. Our office can help you get Transitions lenses that darken outside or high index lenses that are even thinner and lighter than polycarbonate lenses. There are also coatings not covered by Medicaid, such as sunglass lenses or anti-reflective coatings that help reduce glare. If you are interested in these options, you can use your own money to pay only for the upgrades and still use Medicaid to cover the base price of the lenses.

Medicaid is great about replacing broken glasses. If your child's frame from our budget selection breaks, we often will have an identical frame in stock that we can swap the lenses into. If we can't replace the frame or the lenses are unusable, then Medicaid will cover a replacement pair.
Contact Lenses for Patients Under 21
Contact lenses are often covered by Colorado Medicaid for patients younger than 21.  Feel free to ask our doctors if contact lenses would be appropriate for you or your child.
